Spoke to some colleagues today who were also fresh graduates like me. Nearly all of them were complaining about having to work late daily, having no social life, etc. However, upon questioning further, i realised that most of the "work" they had were not of urgency, eg: it could be completed the next day instead of having to work late. Most of them also felt compelled to work late as their bosses were working late.
This made me think..
if you were unhappy about working late, then don't work late!
there is no reason to work late even if your boss is still in the office. Amount of time you spend at work does not translate to an equal amount of good work done. Might as well spend efficient time working during work hours to get the same job done!
Most of them could also be having the "feel important" syndrome. After all, they are merely fresh grads who have started only 3 months into their jobs. Working late could make them feel as if they were needed and important in the office. But is that really the case??
So next time, when the clock strikes and its time to knock off, ask yourself: is this job so urgent that i have to finish it by today?
You have a choice.
*By the way, i always knock off punctually. I dont care what others think, as long as i get my job done, i'm out of there!! :)

i like to work late and try to finish my work if i have no appointments in the evening! that is because i tend to forget where i left things the previous day after a night of rest, and will end up spending extra time reading through codes and trying to recall... heh... it is my choice so no complaints from me~ =)
